This nice plugin enables you to give dimension to a design by rotating it. It works in a really simple way : you have a cube you can rotate along its axis and in any direction by dragging two sliders, with a third slider for adjusting distance, and a series of buttons for selecting light direction. Something very efficient, though the management of colors in general and the shading in particular are far from perfect : say you begin with a green rectangle, then give it 3D by rotating it with Pop Art, the plugin automatically paints a face grey and another one white. You can then change the color, but will affect all three visible faces the same way ; and when you rotate it again, it goes back to green.... The problem probably is that the plugin does not consider the faces as separate objects. In the end, you may be better off purchasing Adobe Dimensions. |

This plugin is in fact the Illustrator version of HotText for Photoshop, minus the bitmap-only features such as texturing. It simply works by taking the text you give it, adding color and shading to it, and enabling you to rotate, scale and move both the text or the camera at will ; one click on "place 3D text" and you get an object. Quite handy, but not perfect, since you have limited control over your text (no kerning for example, though you have it in the Photoshop version), and you cannot edit your object afterwards (so if you have made changes to it, you need to make them once again). The good surprise is that by using QuickDraw, you can preview your object automatically and accurately. |
