Here are two tools any serious filter maniac should have in his/her digital toolbox. They seem to do the same thing, but in fact they are rather complementary : the Plugin Manager and the Plugin Commander (PICO). Two other useful little freebies : AFSmagic and Photoshop Starter. |

The Plugin Manager is a tool for managing your filters and plugins by disabling or enabling them, sorting them into categories, and converting Filter Factory filters... There are currently 2 versions available : - Version 1.0b is freeware, and it manages the Filter Factory filters well, but not the other filters ; - the version 2.0 perfectly manages all filters (including the commercial ones), is a bit easier to use and has a number of very useful features. Check out for the new versions, correcting a couple of minor bugs. It is shareware ($35) and the downloadable version is 30-day limited. Both are available at ICNet's Homepage, as well as preview sets and updates. |

PICO is a great-looking tool when you need to manage your collection of filters and plugins, there even is a built-in preview for Filter Factory filters and options for converting them from or into Premiere filters, zipping and unzipping them.... Its interest lies in the fact that it offers an extremely easy-to-use environment for converting FF filters between their various formats (including *.FFL), and developing / customizing filters with the Filter Factory module. The latest version, 1 (as opposed to the previous versions which were just betas), adds support for Premiere and After Effects plugins, and batching among other features. This little freeware from ICNET helps you change a couple of PS parameters such as plugins directories and allocated memory before starting PS - useful and way easier than tinkering with the INI file. It is available at ICNet's Homepage. |
