Fractals enables you to compress images into the
STING format (STN). This format is resolution-independent, i.e. you can
create an enormous, high-resolution image from a small file. They do this by
"eliminating the relationship between pixels and resolution by mathematically
encoding the image using an algorithm that replaces the pixels with a new file
structure". Although the compression is supposed to be more efficient than
JPG, the uses for such a plugin are limited to cases where you need to print pictures really big, such as professional posters... |
