Just when I thought no one
could come up with another original plug-in that would surprise me, Digital
Light & Color creates this pretty cool deal that changes just the color you want
to change without using your darn lasso tool once.
Color Mechanic is a selective
color correction plug-in for Photoshop that lets you change one or more colors
in an image without changing any of the other colors in the picture! After
opening your image in the filter window, you simply select the item you want to
change and then move the arrow around on the color cube and watch that area
change color.
There is a draw back, however.
Let’s say you want to change a blue coat to green, and the person also has on a
blue hat….. it will also change the hat to green. Got it? Change the girls red
scarf, you also change the girls red lips. Still, you can use the lasso to
isolate what is changed, but then your back to Photoshop’s Hue/Saturation
adjustment thing.
When the image is right for it,
Color Mechanic works quit well, and makes the steps to change the color pretty
quick. Figuring out how to use the filter wasn’t just an ‘opening it and go for
it’ thing. I had to read the beginning PDF file to get started, but then it
seemed so obvious, I decided I was just stupid that day. It’s all pretty
straightforward and obvious. It might take some time to get used to the
programs limitations, but it will still be useful in isolated situations.
