 Yes, this is one more JPEG compression utility, working either as a plugin for Photoshop or as a standalone app, with an immediately understandable interface. You will find here all usual functions and settings, but with three advantages over other products : you can set it to automatically embed copyrights information, it looks sensibly faster than the others, and finally you can have up to three concurrent views (original, compressed and 8-bit), with enough options to quickly get to the point where you want to see how compression affects the image. The most interesting feature is a very advanced Q Table management, so that you can use the JPG format at its very best, and get really good compressions if you have the time to get to grips with these tables.
The latest versions of this frequently updated product add interesting features, such as the possibility to use different compression settings on different parts of the image, and an enhanced Q Table management ; and 4.1 has improved the export plugin, and also made it available as a filter plugin. Version 4.5 adds what was still missing : the batch feature and PNG support.
Only one thing seem to be missing : it does not come bundled w ith its Gif counterpart, so you will need another product. In the end, this is more of a tool for precise, quality compressions, than for productive work, even if it is one of the fastest. |
