 Chroma Graphics

ChromaGraphics produces three plugins : Chromatica, MagicMask and Edge Wizard. (plus ChromaZone).
Edge Wizard and Magic Mask are now in version 2, and demos for all products have been made available ; this company is said to be out of the plugin business.

Chromatica

This one consists of 3 plugins : ChromaMask helps you building fine masks by means of precise color selection, with a range of tools to get a more precise selection and the possibility to save your selection ranges. It proves to be quite efficient, though not as much as Extensis Mask Pro, the latter being more adapted to complex selections (dark hair on a black wall for example).).

In the same interface you will find ChromaColor, which enables you to quickly replace the color of the mask you have built with others. Not something so useful, but it works seamlessly with ChromaMask.

Finally, ChromaPalette lets you build palettes out of images and replace the existing with others, so that you can create astounding color effects. I must say it allows for impressive effects.

The whole pack is not essential, MaskPro being in my opinion a better choice for masking, the rest you can make with a bunch of other tools.

Magic Mask 2

An excellent plugin, it enables you to easily make good selections based on colors, with magic brushes for the colors you want to add or remove, etc...

The problem is that it does not work that well with very complex images (hair for example),), and the way it works is different from the way you usually make masks with PS, so you will have to spend quite some time mastering it... The good point is that it is fully integrated with Edge Wizard.

Edge Wizard 2

This one is a great helper when you have to take selections from an image and paste them into other images, with an original method for softening the edges of the selection, rather than the more classic and brutal feathering.

Apart from the fact that it is fully integrated with Magic Mask, the main strength in this product lies in the fact that the number of ways it provides for feathering the edge makes it a good solution for every occasion.

ChromaZone : for the record, it was said to be due "early 98"... and is not announced anymore.

This company appears to be out of the plugin business.
